PHYSICAL HEALING FOR ACCESSING INTUITION

As a Health and Life Coach, I help clients heal and flourish in their lives through creating healthy habits and embodying the vibrant being they were born to be. Clients come to me with their deepest desires for their health and life- some want to simply FEEL better in their bodies, or to feel more spiritually aligned, to find more freedom in their relationship with food or to heal chronic imbalances, while others desire to shed excess weight that they know is not serving them.

All of these desires are beautiful. They are all pathways to a deeper, more loving connection to the self. I often see these clients get what they want as a "side effect" of the work we do. What they really experience is inner transformation, the releasing of old stories, strengthened confidence, self-love and a new lifestyle of consistent healthy habits and mindset. My absolute favorite part of this healing work, however, is supporting clients in connecting back to their intuition. 

What's so great about intuition? Intuition is our innate guidance system. It's our gut feelings, our inner compass, our connection to our soul and to the vast intelligence of the Universe. When we develop our own intuition, we no longer need to look outside of ourselves for answers. In this age of information overload, re-connecting to our intuition is an act of true self-empowerment! Connecting to intuition through listening to your body's messages is a great first step in living a more intuitive life. Learning to trust the body's signals creates deeper confidence and trust in your own intuitive abilities, strengthening this power to guide you in every other area of your life. I truly believe the body is our spiritual vessel, and by learning to care for the physical aspects of ourselves, we open up to ever deeper and stronger connections with our own spiritual nature!

In our modern world it's easier than ever to get cut off from the intuition we naturally have about our bodies. Through societal and cultural messages from the media, airbrushed images of "health", celebrity-backed weight loss crazes, endless options for diets and quick fixes, and deep subconscious programming around our own relationships with food and our bodies,  it's no wonder there is so much confusion around health. When we connect to our intuition around our health, we are tapped deep into our primal, instinctual selves- the ancient wisdom that knows exactly what the body needs in any moment to return to harmony. We no longer need that new fad diet, the validation of the scale, the control tactics, or the fear around food. 

I believe in shedding these layers. In illuminating the truth about your body and around health. That we are all perfectly whole, perfectly intuitive, perfectly able to create a loving, high-vibrational, harmonious relationship with our physical bodies. And in doing this work to connect deeper to our physical selves and clear our channel, we unlock new realms of clarity, inner connection and spiritual guidance. When we learn to intuitively trust our own bodies, it becomes easier for us to trust life itself.

Intuition and health is a two-way relationship- choosing to listen to our intuition increases our ability to make conscious, healthy choices, and choosing to care for our bodies helps us to better access the messages of our intuition. I often refer to intuition as the "channel"- a pathway for receiving clear messages. In order to actually receive these messages, the channel first needs to be clear and open. Intuition is most available to us when we are relaxed and free of stress. For many, lowering the stress response in the body through diet, lifestyle and mindset is the first step in clearing the channel for intuition to shine.

I have outlined a few tips for connecting more intuitively to your own body's wisdom and for clearing your own intuitive channel.

 Balance blood sugar

The #1 cause of internal stress within the body is chronically unbalanced blood sugar. This means the body is working hard just to keep you safe from blood sugar spikes after eating foods that are highly processed or full of refined carbohydrates, sugars and caffeine. With the body in constant "stress mode", intuition is much harder to tap into. Eating for balanced blood sugar looks like choosing foods in their most whole and natural form (such as an apple rather than apple sauce or brown rice instead of rice crackers), eating protein/healthy fats at every meal, abstaining from caffeine on an empty stomach, drinking plenty of water and eating at regular intervals throughout the day. When my clients begin to experience the JOY of balanced blood sugar, they never want to go back to the shaky, jittery and fatigued feelings of the constant blood sugar spike and crash!

Honor your hunger and fullness.

Tapping into your body's signals of hunger and fullness is a huge step forward in connecting deeper to your body's brilliant wisdom. This is especially important for developing intuition. It can be easy to confuse other forms of hunger- emotional, mental, spiritual- with physical hunger. A great question to begin developing this awareness is asking yourself the question "What does it feel like to be hungry?". What physical sensations do you feel? Where in your body do you feel it? How do you know when it's time to eat? And do the same with fullness. "What does it feel like to be full?" What physical sensations do you feel? How do you know you've had enough to eat? Begin to bring awareness to a hunger and fullness scale from -10 to 10 and notice at the start of every meal or snack where you fall on the hunger and fullness scale. Do the same for fullness at the end of every meal and snack!

Focus on the feeling.

Rather than using mental constructs such as calories, macros and diet plans to choose foods, try focusing on how that food will make you FEEL and the impact on your energy. Begin to ask your body "How will this food make me feel? Will is raise my energy levels or suck my energy? Will I feel vibrant or sluggish with this choice?". Begin to honor and trust the answer that your body gives you. Sometimes the kale salad will feel really good but sometimes the cheeseburger might! 

Eat mindfully.

Focus on the sensations, textures, smells, tastes and subtle sensory experiences of mealtime. Intuition means we are connected fully to our senses and perceptions, and practicing these skills with our meals helps us to tune in deeper to our present experience.

raise your vibration

Intentionally moving towards behaviors and habits that contribute to a higher vibration make it easier to connect with your own inner guidance and the voice of your soul! Raise your body's vibratory rate through eating plenty of gorgeous greens, fresh, colorful veggies, drinking plenty of fresh water, taking deep breaths, practicing movement to move stagnant energy, and spending time in nature. Meditation, breathwork, ritual and spiritual practices are also amazing for connecting you deeper to your own intuitive superpowers.

RECIPE: Summer Radish, Walnut and Herb Salad

Living in tune with the cycles of the seasons for me means I honor my body's desires for fresh, light and raw foods during these hot days of summer! My little garden produced a small bounty of radishes and herbs, which were perfect for this gorgeously vibrant salad. Nothing could have been more satisfying on a balmy summer night! 

You Will Need:

  • 1/2 cup walnuts
  • 1 Bunch small radishes, sliced
  • 1 cucumber, sliced
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1/3 cup EVOO
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • Handful of sliced chives
  • 1/2 cup fresh dill
  • 1/2 cup fresh mint leaves
  • 1 cup spinach

How to Make It:

  • Whisk together lemon juice, EVOO and salt and pepper to taste to make the dressing. Set aside.
  • Combine radishes, cucumber, and walnuts in a bowl with 1-2 tbsp dressing and toss to combine.
  • Add crumbled feta and toss gently.
  • Arrange a bed of spinach on each plate and lightly drizzle dressing over the leaves. Top with radish mixture.
  • In bowl combine chives, dill and mint with 1 tbsp dressing. Toss to combine and pile on top of radish mixture.
  • Enjoy!

MESSAGES FROM PLANTS: The Sunflower

Plants have been a source of comfort and wisdom for me throughout my life. Always captivated by their beauty, intelligence and humility, I have gleaned many simple yet profound lessons by simply staying open to their messages. I truly believe plants are our allies for healing- in mind, body and spirit!

Yesterday's morning tea and meditation (with the most gorgeous organically grown sunflowers by my side) ended with a channeling of lessons from the noble sunflower. 

The sunflower's existance is literally characterized by a quest to find and drink in the light. Growing above all the rest of the plants, sunflowers have created a life of continually seeking how close they can be towards their source of energy- the Sun. They have even developed a massive surface area for which to absorb and transmute this coveted light.

Sunflowers love light so much they have intelligently designed their entire being in reverence and response to the Sun. During the day they actually follow this light source, always seeking to be connected to and energized by the light. We see divine beauty in the sunflower because yes, they are aesthetically beautiful, but they also hold for us a subtle lesson in following our own Truth, our own source of Light.

The sunflower teaches us about a life of seeking, responding and growing towards our "Light"- anything in life that gives us energy. This Light can be those things you love and feel most drawn to, the habits, attitudes and behaviors that feel life-giving, our sense of connection to divine/spiritual guidance and the guidance we feel from following our intuition.

APPLYING THE SUNFLOWER'S WISDOM

SEEK WHAT GIVES YOU ENERGY IN MIND, BODY, SOUL.

MIND What thoughts, beliefs and intentions fill you with positive energy? And those which drain you of energy- is there a way to change them to be more life-giving? The sunflowers asks us to keep our thoughts about ourselves and other positive so we may stay in the growth-giving powers of the Light.

BODY What foods and health habits give you the most energy? Foods vibrate at different frequencies, some holding more energy than others. Foods fresh from the Earth are filled with the pure energy of the Sun and are life-giving! Processed foods have been altered so drastically that their energy content has been compromised. When you choose foods, do you choose mostly high-energy or low-energy foods? When you choose the habits and activities that make up your day, do you choose those that add to your energy or drain your energy? The sunflower asks us to choose our habits and behaviors based on how they align us with the life-giving qualities of our brightest Light.

SOUL Do you regularly allow yourself to listen to the subtle messages of the heart and soul? The light of the sunflower is the Sun- our own Light is our unique form of inner and divine guidance and our truth. Following our Light means taking heed of what lights us up and responding to what make us feel most alive. When we are aligned with our Source of Light, we feel a sense of trust in our personal quest. We know, deep inside, that our Light will not lead us astray.

REMEMBER THAT LIGHT STILL EXISTS EVEN ON THE CLOUDIEST DAYS.

On overcast days the sunflowers does not shrivel up and become despondent. They keep their heads up high, knowing that behind the clouds the Sun is still shining. The sunflower teaches us to continually seek the Light, even during those times when it may feel difficult or impossible to see and feel it.

The sunflower knows that they have a connection so deep with the Light that they have become a reflection of the Light. This Light runs so deep within them that they can actually brighten a cloudy day with the radiance of their very being!

Channeling the wisdom of the sunflower, we remember that by simply seeking the Light, we become the Light. The yellow of their petals corresponds to the Third Chakra- the solar plexus. This chakra is the source of our Light- our personal power. This chakra asks us to "radiate our power into the world". The more Light we seek and allow to shine onto us, the more we become a powerful Light both for ourselves and for others.

Any time we feel in need of inspiration to connect back to our Light, we can simply call on the energy and wisdom of the sunflower as our guide.

Below is a meditation based on the energy sunflower to open and activate the personal power of our Solar Plexus Chakra.

Simply lie down comfortably, close your eyes, listen with headphones in and relax!

I paired this treat with roses, quartz and rose quartz to enhance the energy of natural beauty and love for the self and others.

RECIPE

In a blender combine:

  • 1/2 cup frozen pineapple or strawberries
  • 1/2-1 1 frozen banana
  • 1/2 cup almond mylk
  • 1 tbsp tocos
  • 1 scoop collagen protein
  • 1/2 tsp cordecyps powder
  • 1/s tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 tsp beet powder (for color)

Lessons in Letting Go

Today marks the first day back online after a week of detoxing from some of the most suffocating attachments I had been noticing in my life. To say that it was a time well-spent is an understatement! During just one week free from the habits, beliefs and distractions that seemed to cloud my inner guidance and numb my connection to Source/Spirit/The Universe, I gained a deeper understanding what it truly feels like to LET GO.

If you are a perfectionist at heart (or a perfectionist-in-recovery, as I can now see myself), you understand the need to control everything, always. I had been trying to control the growth and success of my business through controlling social media. I was controlling my emotions through numbing with sugar and controlling my inner discomfort by complaining, projecting, and venting outwardly to others. 

Through creating space for letting go- of thoughts, feelings, actions, beliefs- I was able to learn so much about the root of WHY I attach so much to certain things. I noticed that this control was an expression of a lack of trust in myself, in my path and in divine guidance. Rather than trying to control with a death grip when I feel uncertainty, I came to terms with the fact that during these times, I need to be letting go the most and simply trust that I am opening myself up to the guidance to move forward.

Through letting go I was also granted access to parts of my soul in meditation that I believe required a deeper ability to surrender than I had ever allowed myself to experience.

Letting go can happen on a mental, emotional, physical and spiritual level- often all at once. Consciously letting go for me feels like a release of the energy in my heart, a simple mantra of "let go" said in my mind, a visceral sigh of relief, a spiritual feeling of surrender and trust. 

Once I experienced a day or two of surrender, I began to crave this feeling! "What can I let go of next?" became my question. This past week was the start of a new chapter for me on so many levels. I feel as though I will be processing this experience for a while but I am excited to share a few more lessons learned from my week of letting go:

Let go of the numbers

One of the most harmful aspects of social media for me (and many other women I know) is viewing the numbers of "followers" or "likes" as evaluations of how I am doing at being a person or in the success of my business. Yikes. By giving myself space for just one week from waking up and seeing how many followers I had lost or gained overnight, I came to the realization that those numbers are completely arbitrary to the service I provide. My intentions with social media are to broaden the reach and awareness of my services, and to provide value through my writing, ideas, photographs and creative energy. By fearing "not being liked" I not only diminish my intention, but I diminish my power as a woman in service of something bigger and greater than myself.   

Tune in, tune in, tune in. Then tune in some more.

I decided to do a detox of the things in my life I knew I was using to tune out. When I had the urge to tune out from uncomfortable feelings or boredom, rather than using my tuning-out-mechanism-of-choice (food/sugar, social media, playing on my phone, complaining) I consciously chose to tune WAY in. Like, deep in there. I would grab my journal and write what feeling was coming up and explore the feeling through a lens of curiosity. In times of boredom I would grab a book and fill my mind and heart with inspiration. This practice of tuning in is definitely a homage to the saying "the only way out is through".

Inspiration comes from Source. 

One of the reasons I enjoy social media so much is a seemingly endless stream of inspiration and opportunities to learn from others. What I hadn't noticed, however, is that sometimes I get so attached to being inspired from others that I forget that I have my own special, unique channel of inspiration waiting to be tapped into. We all do! Spending more time doing things that inspire me- walking in nature, collecting flowers, reading, writing, spending time with friends and family, meditating- helped me feel tapped into a stream of inspiration unclouded by the images, ideas and creations of others (even though there is magic in  being inspired by others, as well).

One aspect of social media I came to appreciate more after a week without is the connections I have formed with women in my community and all around the globe. It is amazing how the internet has truly created a global connectedness and allows us to form friendships, create clients, and share our missions with humans easily across the country and the world! I have a deeper appreciation for social networks as a means of connection and as a business tool. Rather than focusing on comparing myself with others and their success, I am letting go of any self-judegement and moving forward with my business on social media with the utmost of gratitude and integrity.

Beauty is all around!

Letting go of attachments opened me up to so much beauty already in my life. I felt inspired to take impeccable care of my home, build a raised bed garden and plant flowers, herbs and veggies to fill my yard with beauty, walk in the park with a new sense of wonder and awareness, and relish the beauty of the people in my life. Rather than using photos of others peoples' lives as a main source of beauty, I remembered that this beauty is available to me anytime I choose to look for it in my own life.
